This study investigates the influence of mezzanine-floor implementation on the seismic response of open-ground-story reinforced concrete (RC) mixed-use buildings. A comparative analytical assessment was conducted on two three-story RC frame configurations, with and without a mezzanine floor, using linear elastic time-history analyses under eleven earthquake ground motion records. The seismic response was evaluated in terms of modal periods, inter-story drift ratios, torsional and stiffness irregularities, base shear forces, and roof displacements. The mezzanine-integrated configuration reduced the fundamental period by 11.4%, indicating increased structural stiffness, redistributed inter-story drift demands within the lower stories, and reduced base shear demand for 9 of the 11 earthquake records. However, the maximum torsional irregularity coefficient increased to 1.586, exceeding the TBEC-2018 limit value of 1.20. Although the mezzanine floor reduced selected global response measures, it increased torsional irregularity and redistributed deformation demand within the lower stories. These findings indicate that reduction in global response measures should be evaluated together with local irregularity measures when assessing the seismic performance of mixed-use RC buildings.
